The mission of Shawnee Park and Climate Alliance is to build a coalition of public and private partners advocating for congressional creation and continuing support of the proposed Shawnee National Park and Climate Preserve on public lands in Southern Illinois presently under the USDA Forest Service and placed instead within the Department of Interior National Park Service, to become the Shawnee National Park, in order to fully promote, protect and preserve the culture, history and natural areas within the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers while simultaneously creating the nation's first Climate Preserve
